“Well it’s day 2 and I wish I could say I was feeling a lot better but I’m not really. Just a little maybe. I cried for the first time in a long time. The guys here are really helping me keep my spirits up. Some of the guys that have been here a while say that this program has really helped them. I didn’t sleep much last night. Maybe 45 minutes. On the positive, 48 hours is the longest I’ve been clean and sober in 3 years. A therapist named Byron did a group with us about having a purpose in life. I couldn’t really pay attention because my mind is racing. But Byron talked to me after group because he could tell I’m struggling. I appreciated that because I could tell he cares. I told him I don’t have a purpose in life and he said yes I do that my purpose for right now it just to get clean. He’s pretty cool. I don’t think my family wants to hear from me which sucks. But I hurt them pretty bad. I stole from them to get money for dope and booze and I don’t know if I can ever forgive myself. They took us on an airboat alligator tour in the Everglades today and then we did a group. I felt like crap but it was cool because I had never seen an alligator up close. I thought I was gonna puke on that airboat because the damn things are fast and I’m still withdrawing from cocaine and whiskey so I was a little queezy if ya know what I mean. Somehow I managed to have fun. Cravings today aren’t as bad as I thought they would be. But dammit I just want to be happy. All I ever wanted was just to be happy. They call this place The Good Life and I wouldn’t say I’m living the good life just yet but I’m gonna try and get there.”
